CTRS and Sask Women Curling Tour Provincial Qualifiers
The top three Highest Ranked Saskatchewan Teams on the CTRS as of December 12, 2011 received a spot directly to the Provincials. Those teams were:

The highest ranked Saskatchewan Team on the Sask Women's Curling Tour as of December 12, 2011 also received a spot direct to the Provincial. That team was:

SaskPower Southerns - Weyburn - 9 entries 
The four Southern qualifiers were:

        Candace Chisholm, Brooklyn Lemon, Natalie Bloomfield, Kristy Johnson, Coach-Jim Packet - Maryfield

        Susan Lang, Linda Burnham, Donna Ell, Pat Bell - Regina Callie

SaskPower Northerns - Prince Albert - 12 entries 
The four Northern qualifiers were:
        Jill Shumay, Kara Johnston, Taryn Holtby, Jinaye Ayrey - Saskatoon Nutana 
        Robyn Silvernagle, Kelsey Dutton, Dayna Demmans, Cristina Goertzen, Coach-Anita Silvernagle - Meadow Lake 
        Rachel Fritzler, Ashley Quick, Amy Merkosky, Aly Johns - Saskatoon Granite 
        Darlene Gillies, Linda Kloschinsky, Wanda Heitt, Tracy Heidt, Coach-Brad Heidt - Unity

SaskPower Scotties Provincial - Humboldt - 12 Team (2 pools) 
The Humboldt host committee did an excellent job of promoting the Provincial Women's as the curling club was packed from morning to night every day of the event. The local volunteers went above and beyond to ensure fans and players had a great time at the event.

After the round robin pool play, the Michelle Englot team and the Stefanie Lawton team finished first in their respective pools advancing to the A1 vs B1 game. Tiebreakers were required to determine second place in both pools. The Chantelle Eberle team defeated the Robyn Silvernagle team in one pool and the Jill Shumay team defeated the Candace Chisholm team in the other pool. The Englot team defeated the Lawton team in the A1 vs B1 game advancing to the final while the Lawton team would play in the semi-final. The Shumay team defeated the Eberle team in the A2 vs B2 game to advance to the semi-final. In the semi-final, the Lawton Team defeated the Eberle team but then fell short in the provincial final with the Michelle Englot team from Regina winning the Provincial Title. Congratulations to Michelle Englot on winning her seventh provincial title.

The Marj Mitchell Award is awarded to the competitor that the Provincial SaskPower Scotties who is deemed by their peers to be exemplify competitiveness, excellence in performance and sportsmanship on and off the ice. The award was presented to Candace Chisholm from Maryfield.

  

RULES GOVERNING THE COMPETITION - 2012-13

A.  ELIGIBILITY 
1. Affiliation 
a) Only those clubs and establishments that are affiliated with the Saskatchewan Curling Association and the Canadian Curling Association may participate in the competition. 
b) All participants must be affiliated members of the SCA, adhere to the SCA Residency Policy and be a Canadian citizen. 

2. Age 
Each player must be 19 years of age or over on December 31st of the year prior to the National Championship. (i.e. They must be born in 1993, or earlier.) 

3. Entry 
a) Each team must register its four players on the competition entry form prior to the commencement of play. 

b) All players on the team must be members of an affiliated club in the same Region. 

c) Registered players shall participate in the competition in one Region only. 

d) If a team has a coach at North/South/Provincials, he/she must be Level 1 Certified in the sport of curling. At Nationals he/she must be Level 2 Certified in the sport of curling to be recognized. 

4. Entry Fees 
The SCA entry fee for this competition is $200.00 (GST included) per team plus a Canadian Curling Association Participant Fee of $30.00 per player paid once per year, payable to the Region Director or SCA office at the time of entry. When entering the competition the participant must declare that they have previously paid this fee, OR pay the CCA Participant Fee at the time of entry. The CCA Participant Fee only needs to be paid once per season.

5. Deadlines 
a) To earn ALL points for pre-qualification through CTRS or Sask Women's Curling Tour, a team must be registered by November 1, 2012. 

b) The entry deadline for Women's Open North/South entries is 12:00 PM (noon), Tuesday, December 18, 2012. 

B. SUBSTITUTE (Please refer to General Rules of Competition #13 for general substitution rules) 
Specific substitution rules for this competition are: 
        1. For CTRS/WCT Events see F. (c). 
        2. Teams representing South Regions - Subs must be a member of an affiliated Southern Club. 
            Teams representing North Regions - Subs must be a member of an affiliated Northern Club.

C. PLAYDOWN PROCEDURES 
The Province is divided into 14 Regions, seven of which (Regions 1 to 7) shall constitute the Southern Division and seven of which (Regions 8 to 14) shall constitute the Northern Division. The playdown levels are CTRS (Canadian Team Ranking System) Bonspiels, SWCT (Sask. Women's Curling Tour) Bonspiels, Southern or Northern playdowns and Provincial playdowns. 

1. The SaskPower Southern playdown will be open to all eligible teams representing clubs in Regions 1 to 7. The SaskPower Northern playdown will be open to all eligible teams representing clubs in Regions 8 to 14. The SaskPower Southern and Northern playdown will use a triple knockout draw and will declare four (4) teams to advance to the SaskPower STOH Provincial Championship. 

2. The SaskPower STOH Provincial will be a twelve (12) team event with teams qualifying as follows:
a. The SaskPower Southern and Northern Playdown will each declare four (4) teams to advance to the Provincial Championship. 

b. Three (3) berths will be awarded to the highest ranked registered Sask. teams on the CTRS by a date set by the Competition Committee. 

c. One (1) berth will be awarded to the highest ranked registered Sask. team on the SWCT by a date set by the Competition Committee. 

d. At the SaskPower STOH Provincial Playdown a round robin format will be used. Teams will be divided into two (2) self seeded pools of six (6) teams. The top two (2) teams from each pool will advance to a page system playoff. 

D. CTRS (Canadian Team Ranking System) BERTHS 
The CTRS ranks Canadian women curling teams based on performance in cash tournaments worldwide and women's playdowns leading to sanctioned world championships. Women teams can earn CTRS points by first registering with the CCA. To collect points, any 3 of the 4 players registered with the CCA must be on the ice for the points to be valid. Only events approved by the CCA are eligible to offer CTRS points. - Teams wishing to earn points toward CTRS Berths must register with the CCA on-line prior to commencement of playing in their first CTRS event. 

- On December 17, 2012, the three highest ranked registered Saskatchewan Teams on the CTRS will earn berths to the Provincial. 

- In the event of a tie for the final qualifying berth, the Tiebreaker Criteria will be as follows:

     i. Number of 1st place finishes 
    ii. Number of 2nd place finishes 
    iii. Number of 3rd/4th place finishes 
    iv. Number of 5th to 8th place finishes 
    v. Head to head record in Sask. Tour Events 
    vi. Sudden death playoff among tied teams. Date and location determined by the SCA. 

E. SWCT (Sask Women's Curling Tour) BERTH 
It is understood that teams will have to enter and/or qualify for these SCA Point Qualifying Berth Events under the terms and conditions of each respective bonspiel. Check with respective host clubs for details. 

All 2012 - 2013 Women's SWCT Events during September, October, November and up to and including December 17, 2012 will be designated as qualifying events for the 2012 - 2013 SaskPower Scotties Tournament of Hearts Provincial.

October 5 - 8, 2012         Regina Callie Rocktoberfest (24 Teams) 
October 12 - 14, 2012     Saskatoon Nutana (16 Teams) 
October 19 - 21, 2012     Moose Jaw (16 teams) 
November 2 - 4, 2012     Prince Albert (16 teams) 
December 7 - 9, 2012     Yorkton (24 Teams)

NOTE: A teams' four highest finishes will be used to determine their total points. Points will be awarded as follows: (All bonspiels will have equal value.) 

        1st place 10 points 
        2nd place 7 points 
        3rd and 4th place 5 points 
        5th to 8th place 3 points 

- Events with 12 teams or greater participating - full points awarded. Under 12 teams participating - no points awarded.

- In the event a team(s) who are not eligible, as per the set criteria, qualify in any event it is understood that the placing points for that team are not awarded and not passed on to any team. (e.g. If a team from Alberta wins an event then the 10 points vanish and are not awarded to any team.) 

- Only the top 8 teams in any event are eligible for qualifying points. 

- Where events only qualify 6 teams the 5th and 6th place teams will be awarded 3 points each and the normal 7th and 8th place points will not be awarded. 

- In the event of a tie for a qualifying berth, the Tiebreaker Criteria will be as follows: 
    i. Number of 1st place finishes 
    ii. Number of 2nd place finishes 
    iii. Number of 3rd/4th place finishes 
    iv. Number of 5th to 8th place finishes 
    v. Head to head record in Sask. Tour Events 
    vi. Sudden death playoff among tied teams. Date and location determined by the SCA. 

F. TEAMS WILL BE ABLE TO VIE FOR CTRS AND SWCT BERTHS IF THEY MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: 
a) All participants must be affiliated members of the SCA. Team rosters need to be declared on a SCA Playdown Registration Form. Competition Fee including the CCA Fee must be paid to the SCA Office or through on-line registration by November 1st. Points accumulated prior to Nov. 1 will count only if fees and forms are submitted by Nov. 1. Registrations received after Nov. 1 will allow the team to accumulate points only from the date of registration received.

b) Teams wanting to earn points via CTRS must also register on-line with the CCA at www.curling.ca

c) Teams wishing to earn points through the CTRS or SWCT Berths must have three (3) of four registered players. In the event only three of four registered team members compete, the substitute for the bonspiel must: 
    i. be age eligible for women's competition i.e. They must be born in 1993, or earlier. 
    ii. reside within SCA boundaries. 
    iii. be a member in good standing of a member club of the SCA. 
    iv. play the position of the indisposed player or lower. 
   
d) Teams must meet the age criteria of the women's SaskPower Scotties Tournament of Hearts Championship as established by the SCA and CCA. 

e) Calculation of SWCT points will be completed by the SWCT Committee, and will be posted on www.saskcurl.com SWCT section. Any discrepancies should be brought to the SWCT Committee. 

f) Calculation of CTRS Points are completed by the CCA. Any discrepancies should be brought to the CCA's attention. 

G. MISCELLANEOUS 
1. It is understood that teams will have to enter and/or qualify for these SCA Point Qualifying Berth Events under the terms and conditions of each respective bonspiel. Check with respective host clubs/events for details. 

2. In the event of any challenge or dispute related to rulings or awarded points, it is understood that the decision of the SCA Committee is final. (The SCA Committee will consist of the President, the Provincial Competition Liaison and the Chief Official for Saskatchewan.) 

3. Should a team qualify for a berth through the CTRS and SWCT, the CTRS would take precedence. 

4. In the event a registered player(s) is/are replaced in September to December, that replaced player(s) may apply to the SCA for reinstatement of eligibility in order to re-enter playdowns with another team in the same Region that player was originally registered in. Application must be made to the SCA Chief Official by 6:00 PM, December 16, 2012.

MARJ MITCHELL AWARD
