(Jan 10) Amber Holland had an almost perfect week losing only one game during
the 2010 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Eston. The team of skip, Holland, third, Kim Schneider, second Tammy
Schneider and Heather Kalenchuk defeated Sherry Anderson, 9-6 in the
Championship Final Sunday night at the Eston Curling Club. Holland had
earlier in the day lost to Anderson in the A1 vs B1 Page Playoff game, 9-4
giving Anderson a berth into the final and dropping Holland into the semi-final.
Holland rebounded beating Stefanie Lawton in the semi-final, 8-6 for another
shot at Anderson. Finishing with a perfect 5-0 record in the
round-robin and first place in her pool, Holland outscored her competition 42-11
in the five contests.
In the A2 vs B2 page playoff Sunday morning Lawton
beat Chantelle Eberle, 9-2 to advance to the semi-final and eliminating Eberle
from the competition.
In the round robin, top seeded, Holland went unbeaten
finishing in first place in the "A" pool with a 5-0 record.
Anderson defeated defending champion, Lawton, 6-3 Saturday night to
finish with a 4-1 record, tied with Lawton. However the round-robin win
gave Anderson first place in the "B" pool.
The event started in Kindersley on Wednesday but
was moved to Eston after fire damaged the
Kindersley Curling Club on Friday.
Team Holland will now represent Saskatchewan at the Tournament of Hearts in
Sault Ste Marie, January 30- February 7th.
Holland also won the Marj Mitchell Award for
sportsmanship and competitiveness voted among her fellow curlers.
